NOLASOME
NOLASOME will celebrate all that is the greatest city on Earth. . . . New Orleans.
We seek to form a community of people who love New Orleans, sharing their love with the world. Writers, bloggers and all who celebrate New Orleans are welcome to share their passion for this City and what they believe makes it great.
Our city has many flaws . . . we realize this and that fact is covered in many places. NOLASOME will only revel in what makes New Orleans great. We will never focus on the negatives, we will never get political. . . WE WILL CELEBRATE NEW ORLEANS.

THE PEOPLE
The thing that makes New Orleans special are the people. Simply said. . . WE ARE AWESOME.
“we dance even if there's no radio. we drink at funerals. we talk too much & laugh too loud & live too large, and, frankly, we're suspicious of others who don't.”
-Chris Rose- 1 dead in attic
Our children are talented, cultured, and of course, well fed. Our adults are proud of our city, friendly, can handle their alcohol (mostly), and of course, are also well fed. Our elders are revered, the keepers of our traditions and stories, they taught us how to cook, and more importantly, how to enjoy life.
Locals often feel out of place living in other cities, these other cities simply aren’t New Orleans. We get us, most others don’t. Tourist want to be more like us but don’t know how. Many transplants have figured it out. Whether here through college or happenstance the city grabs hold, and will not let them go. They come to know. . . What it means to miss New Orleans.
Those visiting, thank you! Enjoy yourself, be respectful, and please realize there is more to New Orleans than Bourbon Street.
THE MUSIC
Historic, unique and diverse begins to describe the music of New Orleans.
No other city its size and even many larger cities cannot claim to have impacted music or even have as many music venues and events as New Orleans.
Any night of the week you can hear jazz at an historic venue, rock or blues at a hole-in-the-wall, or national touring acts in the larger venues.
We may be renowned for Jazz but musicians of every conceivable genre are found preforming nightly. You only need to know where to find them. . . NOLASOME’s contributors will tell you. NOLASOME’s social media will promote local artists . . . follow us to follow them.
THE FOOD
On August 1, 2005 New Orleans had 984 restaurants. . . in October of 2006 the number fell to 741. As of May 2018 there were more than 1,200 restaurants in New Orleans. (New Orleans Advocate, June 16, 2018)
"In America, there might be better gastronomic destinations than New Orleans, but there is no place more uniquely wonderful. ... With the best restaurants in New York, you'll find something similar to it in Paris or Copenhagen or Chicago. But there is no place like New Orleans. So it's a must-see city because there's no explaining it, no describing it. You can't compare it to anything. So, far and away, New Orleans."
-Anthony Bourdain
We are back, New Orleans is stronger. The greatest food city in the world is more varied and robust than ever.
You can dine at all of the historic restaurants in the French Quarter, find a new hot place that just opened, or hit one of the out of the way places only locals know about.
We won’t review restaurants but we will tell you where we like to eat and who we think makes the best gumbo (if you’re a local, the answer should always be “my house” or “my mom’s house”)
THE FUN
The parties, festivals and of course . . . MARDI GRAS.
There is always a party to watch or join. It is said that there is either a party (bar) or church on every corner of New Orleans, and that is barley an exaggeration.
You can become an official member of the party by joining a Mardi Gras krewe or social club. You may join by signing up for a pub crawl or doing one yourself with a group of friends. And, you can even exercise while partying with events like the Red Dress Run, Running of the Santas, or for more serious runners . . . the Crescent City Classic.
The biggest celebration of all is Mardi Gras. Even Mardi Gras is made up of smaller parties for everyone. Family friendly gatherings Uptown on the parade route, teen and college parties up and down St. Charles Ave, and the R or X-rated festivities in the French Quarter. The celebrations are layered and countless as we haven’t even mentioned the quitessential traditions like the Mardi Gras Indians, balls, and too many to mention dancing krewes of every shape, size, gender, and genre.
And the Festivals. Over 130 festivals take place every year in the New Orleans (Neworleans.com). There is a festival for everything and everyone where hundreds of thousands attend and others with just a few hundred. We celebrate art, food, drinks, music, cultures, film, worthwhile causes, and anything else we see value in.
THE HISTORY
New Orleans is over 300 years old. We were founded by France, then under the rule of Spain, then back to France, and finally to the United States (although England
futilely tried to gain control in 1815.)
Our history is important, interesting, and impactful to the entire country. We are proud of our heritage whether it be the early French settlement in 1718 or the 1984 Worlds Fair. We have our ancient history from the 1700s and 1800s and the “ain’t dere no more” from the 1900s. We have an unnatural attachment to many things from our past, and don’t give a damn that outsiders don't get it.

We always find a reason to party and celebrate life.
